Fun Friday - Things Lost During Menopause

I will NOT take the heat for all menopausal women, literally and figuratively speaking. This list of things lost during menopause did not all come from me. I had help. The people around me called family, feel they have become experts on the signs and symptoms of menopause. They often give unsolicited comments. And other menopausal women have also contributed.

Here’s our list of things lost during menopause:

1.      Ability to stay awake past 9pm – my son said I lost this ability long ago (this is one of those unsolicited comments). Quite often I put up a fight to stay awake past 8pm quite often I lose the battle.

2.      Bladder control – yep, bladder control goes bye, bye. A menopausal woman can sneeze, laugh or cough and experience a little leakage.

3.      Your mind – I hope you like rollercoaster rides because your emotions can be similar to a rollercoaster ride. They go up, down and in circles. Some women have said they feel like they’re losing their mind.

There are also things gained during menopause
1.      The ability to fall asleep anywhere – it could be during a meeting after your body has been in a state of stillness for ten minutes.

2.      An opportunity to redefine who you are – celebrate this new chapter in your life.
You gain a new tribe of friends who sympathize with whether or not they experience menopausal symptoms

While this list is just for fun, not all women experience all symptoms of menopause. The lucky ones have minimal symptoms or no problems at all. No matter what difficulties you may be going through, remain faithful.

What would you add to the list of things lost during menopause? It could be something you’ve heard someone else say.

March is Reading Month - What are you reading?

Menopause is not a disease. Athlete and wellness coach Lori Ann King believes that women have more control over their situation in menopause than they think.

March is Reading Month and Women's History Month, what a great time to read a book by a woman author. I've started reading Lori's book, Come Back Strong Balanced Wellness After Surgical Menopause. She shares her personal story to offer hope to women facing surgical menopause.

Come Back Strong provides the reader with "tools that can strengthen the mind, body, and emotions and assist you to live a more balanced life."

Are you struggling with the effects of menopause or feeling like you're alone on this journey? You're not alone. Check out Lori's book for inspiration and practical tips and tools to help improve your emotional health.

Come Back Strong can be purchased on Amazon and other locations. Visit Lori's website for more details.

Thursday Thoughts – Fluffy to Fabulous – 3 Tips for Embracing You

Motivation to go from feeling fluffy to fabulous

I’m going through a break-up. I need to do this for me. I’m breaking up with the extra six pounds I’ve “somehow” gained. I lost them once before, but they have returned home to nest. I’m feeling fluffy.

It’s time to turn things around (again). It’s time to go from fluffy to fabulous, six pounds to sexy (whatever this looks like for you). Anybody with me? Perhaps six pounds is not your goal, maybe you just want to feel healthy. Let’s do it.

Take my fluffy to fabulous challenge. Make it all about embracing you. Think about what that looks like for you.

Here are 3 tips for embracing you...

1.      Improve fitness level – if you’re working to improve your fitness level, celebrate the small successes along the way. Reward yourself with a non-food item
2.      Don’t tear yourself down if you stray from your goal(s) – success comes from not giving up. Realize that you may need to do something different to reach your goal, but don’t give up. I’m talking from experience. As we get older, our metabolism changes and we can’t eat the way we used to 10 years ago.

I exercise five times a week but became frustrated because my weight was up. My thought was that I workout diligently, but I’m stuck. I was stuck. It was because I wasn’t being mindful about what I was eating. I knew I needed to do something differently.

When the fitness studio I attend begin a new challenge, I signed up right away. This is my way of holding myself accountable and also have the support of others experiencing the same journey. Our “Little Black Dress” challenge is a 60-day challenge of which we’re into day 4.

If you are in the Belleville, MI area and ready to focus on fitness, check out Atrain’s SuperFit.
3.      Say encouraging thins about yourself – find something positive to say about yourself. Every day will not be perfect, but finding something good about the day and about yourself can sure make things better.

Fluffy to Fabulous. What will you do to improve your health?

Thursday Thoughts - New Year, New You

Are you ready for 2019? It's coming whether you're ready or not. Level up your life. Write down three major things you want to accomplish in 2019 and create a plan to go after them.

I saw a quote once that said, "If your dream doesn't scare you, it isn't big enough." If there is something holding you back from going after your dreams, remember, you can always turn your obstacles into opportunities.

Go get it.

New year, new you.
